Nero Burning ROM

Nero Burning ROM, commonly called just Nero, is an optical disc authoring program for Microsoft Windows by Nero AG (formerly Ahead Software) which is located in Germany.[1] As of version 6, the program has been a part of Nero software suite. Nero Linux offers the support for Linux.
Nero Express, a simplified edition of Nero Burning ROM targeted for entry-level customers, is also available with Nero software suite. Although Nero Express is not as powerful as the full-featured Nero Burning ROM, it features a more streamlined user interface and offers a broader range of features than those offered by Windows. Nero Express is also integrated into Nero software suite, especially into OEM editions of this software which lack Nero Burning ROM.

Features

Nero Burning ROM supports the creation of:

* Bootable discs
* Audio CD discs
* Video DVD discs
* Video DVD content
* blu-ray dvd discs

It also contains a player for DVD discs, video files, and audio files, an image viewer, and software to assist production of DVD discs and other multimedia content.

Nero Burning ROM Lite and OEM (with hardware purchase only) are cheaper, reduced functionality versions of Nero Burning ROM.
[edit] Image format support

Nero Burning ROM works with a number of optical disc image formats, including the raw uncompressed image following the ISO9660 standard, and Nero's proprietary NRG file format. Depending on version more image formats may be natively supported.

To use more formats, particularly lossless FLAC, Wavpack, and Shorten, it is necessary to install additional program modules. The modules, called plug-ins or codecs, are often freely available. Nero AG sells some video and proprietary audio plug-ins.[2]

When in the past a Nero backup of a music CD would play on your home stereo as well as in your car, this is no longer the case. Backing up your music CDs will produce a CD that is only playable on a PC.[citation needed]
